At least ten people have tragically lost their lives in New Orleans after a driver intentionally drove into a crowd on the bustling Bourbon Street. The suspect, identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old veteran from Texas, opened fire with an assault weapon on police officers before being fatally shot. Inside the rented Ford vehicle, authorities found an ISIS flag, weapons, and two homemade explosives which were safely disarmed.
The FBI suspects that Jabbar did not act alone and believe there may be additional accomplices. A subsequent fire in a rented flat in St. Roch led to the evacuation of dozens of individuals, further adding to the chaos following the deadly attack. The city's police chief and mayor have labeled the incident as a terrorist attack, emphasizing the suspect's intention to cause devastation.
President Joe Biden condemned the attack, denouncing all forms of violence and pledging to stand against any assaults on the nation's people. Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump linked the incident to immigration, drawing attention to the need for stringent border security measures.
