Vancouver Attack Suspect Had Mental Health Issues: Troubled Past Revealed

Kai-ji Adam Lo, the 30-year-old suspect in the 'Lapu Lapu' street festival attack in Vancouver, had a tumultuous past marked by family tragedies and mental health challenges.

Family Tragedies

Lo lost his father shortly after the family moved to Vancouver. In January 2024, his brother Alexander Lo was murdered, leading Kai-ji to organize a crowdfunding campaign for his brother's funeral costs.

Mental Health Struggles

Months later, Kai-ji sought financial support again due to his mother's suicide attempt. Concerns about his mental state were raised hours before the recent attack, citing delusions and paranoia.

Political Response

The tragedy sparked a discussion on mental health care in Canada, with Premier David Eby calling for increased funding to prevent such incidents from happening again.

The attack resulted in 11 deaths and numerous severe injuries, including a five-year-old victim.
