US Urges Foreign Terrorists in Syria to Leave the Country

US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State John Bass, currently in Ankara for diplomatic meetings, stated that the focus of discussions was on the smooth transition process in Syria and the concrete steps that can be taken in this regard. Bass emphasized that coordination with Ankara is ongoing in addressing terrorism and security issues, acknowledging Turkey's concerns.
Responding to a question about the removal of PKK/YPG elements from Syria, Bass said there is agreement among many governments that Syria should not be a safe haven for foreign terrorist organizations in the future. The US official highlighted the importance of foreign terrorists leaving Syria and facing justice for their actions by returning to their own countries.
Bass emphasized the need for the transition process in Syria to not pose a security threat to Turkey and stated that efforts will continue to ensure stability in the region by working together with Ankara. He underlined the importance of preventing further destabilization in Syria and the resurgence of terror activities by ISIS during this process.
Bass claimed that the US military presence in Syria aims to prevent the resurgence of ISIS as a regional threat and that cooperation with PKK/YPG is part of the fight against ISIS. He warned against foreign terrorist elements exploiting the situation in Syria, stressing the need to improve security and conditions for all Syrians in the country.
