washington - The US Supreme Court has upheld the law that threatens to ban TikTok in the country, rejecting TikTok's objections.

US Supreme Court Decision on TikTok

The US Supreme Court has upheld a law that could lead to the ban of TikTok in the country. The law, set to take effect on Sunday, requires Chinese company ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, to sell the American operations of the popular video app. Failure to comply will result in TikTok being banned in the US on January 19. TikTok argued that a ban would violate freedom of speech, but the Supreme Court rejected these claims, stating that the law does not infringe on the right to free speech.

As of Sunday, Americans can still use the app, but downloading it from app stores such as Apple and Google will be prohibited if the American operations are not sold by then. Additionally, companies will no longer be able to assist in app updates.

Many American politicians view TikTok, with approximately 170 million American users, as a national security threat due to its Chinese ownership.

President-elect Donald Trump, who will be inaugurated on Monday, opposes the ban and believes he can negotiate a deal with China on the matter.
