A US military member, identified as 22-year-old Jack Teixeira, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for leaking secret information online. Teixeira, who was part of the Air National Guard and stationed in Massachusetts, accessed top-secret information despite his lower rank. Prosecutors revealed that Teixeira had viewed hundreds of classified documents on various topics, including the war in Ukraine. He then shared this information on the chat service Discord, bragging about his access to data regarding Israel, Palestine, Syria, Iran, and China.

Teixeira was arrested by authorities last year. His attorneys had requested a maximum prison term of eleven years, arguing that their client regrets his actions and had no malicious intent. They claimed that Teixeira's only intention was to educate his online friends about global events, such as the Ukraine war. During questioning, Teixeira referred to that conflict as "probably the most significant event of my generation."
