US Judge Denies Request to Stop Musk from Firing Government Workers
A US judge has rejected a request to temporarily remove Elon Musk and his advisory body DOGE's authority to recommend firing government officials and accessing government data.
Fourteen Democrat-led states filed a lawsuit last week challenging Musk's legal authority, but Judge Tanya Chutkan dismissed their emergency request to halt Musk and DOGE's work. 'Plaintiffs have not demonstrated they will suffer immediate, irreparable harm without a temporary injunction,' Chutkan stated.
The fourteen states claimed in their lawsuit that Musk and DOGE lack legal authority to carry out their work, citing Musk's lack of formal nomination by the president for his role and Senate confirmation.
DOGE, led by Musk, the world's richest man and a major donor to Trump's recent campaign, aims to create plans with Musk to cut hundreds of billions of dollars in government spending. Musk's plans have already resulted in the closure of some federal agencies and the dismissal of thousands of employees.
