Outbreak in Congo
In the Equateur region of the Democratic Republic of Congo, an unknown disease has caused the death of 53 people and 419 confirmed cases. The World Health Organization reported that the disease, with a 48-hour period between onset of symptoms and death, first emerged in Boloko town after 3 children showed symptoms of bat bites and hemorrhagic fever, leading to their deaths. Another outbreak occurred in Bomate town on February 9. Serge Ngalebato from Bikoro Hospital highlighted that in most cases, the time between symptom onset and death is 48 hours, causing concern. Last year, a mysterious flu-like illness in a different region of the country, which resulted in multiple deaths, was likely malaria.
