ukraine - A former Ukrainian nurse and kindergarten teacher, Natalia Hrabarchuk, amazed many by successfully shooting down a Russian cruise missile in one attempt with a rocket launcher.

As the war in Ukraine approaches its one-thousandth day, more and more women are stepping up to defend their country. Natalia Hrabarchuk, a former nurse and kindergarten teacher, is one of them. Last Sunday, she was on duty on one of the rooftops where troops of the Western Air Command were holding guard against hostile fire when she noticed a cruise missile approaching. With a single shot from a 9K38 Igla portable air defense system, she managed to bring down the missile, as shown in a video from the Ukrainian Air Force. This was her first experience in a direct conflict as a Ukrainian soldier.

Ironically, the 9K38 Igla rocket launcher she used was designed by the Russians during the Soviet era. "Natalia got him!", exclaimed one of the soldiers present after the action. Reflecting on the incident, Natalia said, "When the hostile rocket approached, all my emotions shut down. I have undergone hundreds of training sessions and simulations and finally, it all paid off. The first shot was a direct hit!"
