ukraine, russia - Ukraine hits Russian oil pipeline transporting Kazakh oil to Western Europe, impacting Western energy giants.
Ukraine Targets Russian Oil Pipeline
Ukraine's attack on the Russian oil pipeline carrying Kazakh oil to Western Europe has caused disruptions in energy supplies. The 1500 km pipeline, in which Western energy giants Chevron, ExxonMobil, and Shell have stakes, was hit by Ukrainian drones.
Attack on Pump Station
The attack targeted a pump station belonging to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, responsible for transporting Kazakh oil to Western Europe via the Black Sea. The Kropotkinskaya pump station in Russia's Krasnodar region was hit, affecting the flow of oil through the Tengiz-Novorossiysk pipeline system.
Escalation in Conflict
President Zelensky of Ukraine accused President Putin of lying during the 61st Munich Security Conference. The conflict intensified as Ukrainian drones targeted Russia's international oil pipeline.
Consequences of the Attack
No casualties were reported in the attack on the pump station. However, the disruption in oil supply has led to emergency electricity cuts in some parts of Ukraine due to retaliatory attacks on Russia's energy infrastructure.
Russian Response
Russia's Defense Ministry announced the downing of 90 Ukrainian drones and a Neptune missile over the Azov Sea and the Black Sea. Russian forces also seized the village of Fyholivka in Ukraine's eastern Kharkiv region.
