taipei - Taiwan braces for typhoon Krathon as two people lost their lives due to the adverse weather conditions. Schools, offices, and the stock exchange remain closed as the typhoon is expected to make landfall in Kaohsiung.

Taiwan is on high alert as typhoon Krathon approaches, bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds. The public life has come to a standstill with hundreds of flights canceled, schools closed, and offices shut down. The typhoon, which has already claimed two lives, is set to hit Kaohsiung around midday local time.

Residents of Kaohsiung received an early morning warning to seek shelter as the typhoon, with wind speeds of over 160 kilometers per hour, poses a significant threat. The last major typhoon to hit the city was Typhoon Thelma in 1977, which resulted in 37 casualties and extensive damage.

Although Krathon has weakened, the Taiwanese government cautions against heavy rainfall and coastal flooding. The city of Kaohsiung, with a population of 2.7 million, is preparing for the storm's impact, remembering the devastation caused by previous typhoons.
