Two Killed by Avalanche in Austrian Tyrol
zillertal - Two separate incidents in Austrian Tyrol and Italian Vierschach resulted in fatalities due to avalanches on the day after Christmas.
Two tragic incidents occurred in the Austrian Tyrol and Italian Vierschach as avalanches claimed the lives of two individuals. The first incident took place in the Tuxer Alps in Tyrol, where two unidentified individuals lost their lives when a large chunk of snow detached from the Rosskopf mountain, which stands at over 2,500 meters. Despite the efforts of emergency services, resuscitation was unsuccessful in saving the victims. At the time, the avalanche risk level in the area was three out of five, indicating a significant danger.
On Christmas day, a major avalanche occurred on the Nordkette in Tyrol, causing a stir in the snow. While three winter sports enthusiasts were caught in the avalanche, they thankfully escaped without harm. Unfortunately, a 73-year-old man lost his life to an avalanche near Lungau, in the village of Mauterndorf, despite being outside the designated ski areas.
These incidents come amidst heightened avalanche risks across the Alps, including a fatal avalanche in France where a 14-year-old boy lost his life. The risk remains high in certain regions due to heavy snowfall prior to Christmas. Stay tuned for updates on the situation.
