united states - US President Donald Trump raises tariffs on China from 10% to 20% due to failures in combating fentanyl imports.
US President Trump's Decision to Increase Tariffs on China
US President Donald Trump has announced an increase in tariffs on imports from China from 10% to 20% in response to the country's failures in combatting the flow of fentanyl and synthetic opioids to the US.
Trump stated that China's inaction in preventing the flow of fentanyl poses a threat to US national security, foreign policy, and economy. The decision comes after a previous tariff of 10% imposed on imports from China on February 1, which was increased to 20% following China's alleged lack of sufficient action to address the crisis.
Trump had warned of further tariff increases if an agreement could not be reached with China, and on February 27, he announced through his Truth Social account that an additional 10% tariff would be imposed on China on March 4.
