Seven tourists who were hospitalized after drinking cocktails at a luxury hotel in the Fiji island group are in stable condition. "We are reassured that their condition was stable this morning and we hope it continues to improve," reported the Ministries of Health and Tourism of Fiji, located east of Australia. A spokesperson for the hotel in Fiji where the tourists fell ill said that an investigation is ongoing and they are awaiting test results from health authorities.
Recently, six tourists in the Southeast Asian country of Laos died after consuming toxic alcohol. The victims were tourists from Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Denmark. Other tourists, including a Dutch citizen, had to be hospitalized after drinking complimentary shots. It is suspected that toxic methanol was added to the drinks to produce alcohol more cheaply.
