antwerp - Blood analysis results confirm that Tom Waes was under the influence of alcohol during a serious accident with his vintage car at the Kennedytunnel.

Blood analysis results have confirmed that Tom Waes was driving under the influence of alcohol when he crashed his vintage Porsche at the Kennedytunnel in early December. This was confirmed by the Antwerp Public Prosecutor's Office after analyzing a blood sample.

"The results of the blood analysis have confirmed that the man was driving under the influence of alcohol," said spokesperson Kristof Aerts of the Antwerp Public Prosecutor's Office. "We are still waiting for other results in the investigation."

Tom Waes crashed his vintage Porsche at the Kennedytunnel on the night of Friday, November 29th. He collided with a crash barrier and was seriously injured. He spent some time in the intensive care unit but was discharged from the hospital last Wednesday.

Three days after the accident, the TV presenter released a personal statement admitting to driving drunk. "It is a big, incomprehensible mistake, one that I feel terrible about," said the TV host. "I want to sincerely apologize to everyone. I am deeply sorry."

Waes thanked the nursing staff taking care of him and expressed his confidence in the judicial investigation. He concluded with the message that he will not speak to the press in the coming months.

The Flemish public broadcaster VRT has decided not to air any new programs featuring Waes in the near future. "It seems important to us – VRT and Tom – to carefully consider this before we resume things as they were. As a result, we have jointly decided that Tom will not appear in new programs on VRT for the time being. However, we look forward to doing so in the future when we all feel ready again."
