A 19-year-old asylum seeker from Syria has been identified as the man who stabbed a 30-year-old tourist near the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin on Friday evening, as reported by the German newspaper Bild. The Public Prosecutor's Office has also confirmed this information.
The suspect, who reportedly resides in a refugee shelter in Leipzig, is currently being searched by the police. Bild, citing sources, mentioned that investigators suspect the motive behind the attack to be 'politically motivated'.
The victim, a 30-year-old Spaniard, was stabbed not far from the American Embassy. Despite sustaining severe injuries, his condition is now reported to be stable.
