brienz, switzerland - The Swiss mountain village of Brienz has been completely evacuated due to the threat of a rockslide, local authorities report.
The 91 residents of the village were instructed to leave their homes because of the looming threat of a rockslide. Even household and farm animals were evacuated. Access to the village is prohibited until further notice, likely until next spring.
To enforce the access ban and ensure safety, the village in the canton of Graubünden is now electronically monitored. To deter thieves, the municipality stresses that residents have taken their valuables with them.
In May 2023, Brienz was already evacuated due to being threatened by a landslide. In June 2023, the village narrowly escaped being hit by a rockslide.
