Since then, he has disappeared, leading the New York police chief to suspect that he boarded a bus. In one of the photos of the suspect circulated, he was seen smiling in a hostel. According to CNN, he was reportedly 'flirting' with a staff member at that time.
'What happened to Brian Thompson is horrific,' said police chief Jessica Tisch at a press conference. 'Thompson was shot at point-blank range in the back at least once, and a shot hit his right calf. At first, the weapon malfunctioned, but then it hit its target.'
The insurance director succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
