kralendijk - The crocodile that was spotted in the sea near Bonaire at the beginning of this month, causing concern on the island, has been identified as a male Cuban crocodile.

The Cuban crocodile was first observed in early October and was believed to have swum over from Venezuela, which is just a few dozen kilometers away from Bonaire. Crocodiles are not normally found in the immediate vicinity of the island. Due to the presence of the reptile, the popular Sorobon beach was closed for a week. The beach has been reopened for two weeks now, but swimmers are still advised not to enter the water.
