colorado springs, usa - A 57-year-old spectator lost his life in a tragic accident during a hammer throwing competition in Colorado Springs.

Tragic Accident at Hammer Throwing Competition

A 57-year-old spectator tragically lost his life during a hammer throwing competition when the projectile landed outside the safety zone, hitting him as he tried to shield his wife and son.

The incident occurred at a regional high school competition on the campus of UCS in Colorado Springs. Despite the quick response of the fire department and police, the man, identified as Wade Langston, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Langston, a father and insurance company employee, was standing behind a safety net that experts deemed insufficient in height, according to local reports.

This unfortunate event is not the first of its kind, with previous fatal accidents occurring in other athletic events like the Highland Games and spear throwing competitions around the world.
