Spanish King Pelted with Mud During Visit to Disaster Area Valencia
valencia - Spanish King faced protests and mud-throwing during his visit to Valencia, a disaster-stricken region in Spain.
Protests erupted as the king arrived in Valencia, with people throwing mud and shouting 'go away' and 'murderer'. The king tried to talk to the people and calm them down.
Police on horseback had to intervene and push back the crowd of a few dozen people. After seeking protection from the mud, the king remained calm and made several attempts to talk to individual residents. One person appeared to have cried on his shoulder. He shook hands with a man.
According to various Spanish media, people are angry because they believe help arrived too late. The recent severe weather has resulted in the deaths of 214 people so far.
The government had previously stated that it was the responsibility of regional authorities to send warning signals to the population. Anger is also directed at Carlos Mazón, the president of the Valencia region, who was also present during the visit. His government has stated that prompt action was taken when the information became available to them.
Prime Minister Sánchez announced on Saturday that there will be an investigation into possible negligence leading up to the disaster.
The royal couple visited Paiporta, one of the hardest-hit villages. Felipe, Letizia, and Sánchez will then travel to Chiva, another severely affected area. He is currently mingling with the crowd in the village he is visiting.
