madrid - Spain has announced a €10.6 billion aid package to help regions affected by severe floods last week, with measures aimed at reconstruction and recovery.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez revealed that €838 million will be directly allocated to those affected by the disaster, with some of the support coming in the form of loans for renovation work.

Sánchez also stated that the number of soldiers and police officers deployed in the flood-hit areas had doubled within three days, with nearly 15,000 personnel now in the Valencia region.

The floods have particularly devastated Valencia, with at least 217 confirmed deaths, marking it as the deadliest flooding event in recent history.
