The unanimous decision was made due to Yoon's actions that violated the constitution and posed a serious threat to democracy.
President Yoon declared a military emergency to bypass the opposition-controlled parliament, claiming it was to protect the country.
Yoon's impeachment triggers presidential elections within sixty days as per South Korea's constitution. Prime Minister Han Duck-soo will serve as acting president until the new president is inaugurated.
