south korea - South Korea's Anti-Corruption Office has officially requested the police to implement the arrest warrant issued against Yoon Suk Yeol, who has been temporarily removed from the Presidency.

South Korea's Anti-Corruption Office has sent a formal letter to the police, urging the implementation of the arrest warrant against Yoon Suk Yeol, who has been temporarily removed from the Presidency. According to Yonhap, the CIO sent the letter to the police on the last day of the deadline for the arrest warrant issued for Yoon.

The letter requested police cooperation in the implementation of the arrest warrant issued for Yoon as part of the investigation into the suspicions of "rebellion" and "abuse of power." Officials stated that Yoon was summoned for questioning on three occasions in December 2024 but did not respond to the calls from the President.

The court had issued an arrest warrant for Yoon and approved the investigators' request for a search of the presidential residence.

Yoon's lawyers, Yun Gap-geun, argued that the CIO is not authorized to conduct an investigation into the suspicion of "rebellion" and stated that they will take legal action against the request.

Yesterday, the court rejected the request to suspend the arrest and search of the presidential residence orders for Yoon.

STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED IN SOUTH KOREA

President Yoon Suk Yeol declared a state of emergency on December 3, 2024, citing "opposition involvement in anti-state activities." However, he reversed the decision after being overturned by the parliament and approved by the Cabinet.

Upon being impeached by the Assembly, Yoon was temporarily removed from office until the Constitutional Court's ruling, and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo was appointed as acting President.

In a vote in the National Assembly on December 27, 2024, Prime Minister Han, who was acting as President, was also impeached. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok assumed the acting presidency in place of Han.
