South Korean President's Security Chief Resigns Amid Controversy
seoul - Park Chong-jun, the chief of South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol's security service, has resigned amid an investigation for allegedly obstructing Yoon's arrest.
South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol's security chief, Park Chong-jun, has stepped down from his position following allegations of impeding the arrest of President Yoon. Park has warned against any attempts to apprehend Yoon leading to violence.
The duties of the embattled president are being overseen by Choi Sang-mok, who has been serving as the acting president and prime minister since December 27. Choi stated on Friday that a new approach must be taken to break the deadlock caused by the president's security personnel in the investigation of Yoon.
President Yoon declared a state of emergency on December 3, citing forces undermining the state's functionality. However, many view this as an illegitimate move against the opposition. Under pressure from parliament, Yoon swiftly lifted the state of emergency. Currently, Yoon is under criminal investigation and has taken refuge in the presidential residence under the protection of the presidential security service.
