south korea - The South Korean parliament has impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol for declaring military emergency. Yoon has been suspended immediately and will be replaced by the prime minister as the interim president.

The South Korean parliament has voted to impeach President Yoon Suk-yeol due to declaring a military emergency. Yoon has been suspended from office and will be replaced by the prime minister as the interim president.

A total of 204 out of 300 parliamentarians voted in favor of the impeachment. It was uncertain beforehand if there was enough support for the motion, as there were mixed signals from the ruling PPP party. Several members expressed their support for the impeachment, but South Korean media reported that the party leadership was against it.

Last week, a vote was boycotted by Yoon's party, which prevented the required two-thirds majority. This time, PPP members attended the session and enough of them voted with the opposition to remove Yoon from office.
