'South Korean Cabinet Willing to Offer Resignation', Reports Sources
seoul - South Korean ministers express their intention to collectively offer their resignation to the premier following the emergency declared by President Yoon Suk-yeol.
South Korean ministers have expressed their intention to offer their resignation to the premier, based on a source within the ruling PPP party, as reported by Chosun Ilbo.
This announcement comes after President Yoon Suk-yeol declared a state of emergency, which he withdrew after the parliament voted to reject it.
Premier Han Duck-soo is expected to meet with the PPP leadership and key advisors of Yoon later on Wednesday, according to Chosun Ilbo.
President Yoon Suk-yeol's chief of staff and some 'key aides' have reportedly submitted their resignations on Wednesday, as stated by the South Korean news agency Yonhap.
Yonhap did not provide further details, but it is assumed that the officials resigned due to Yoon's sudden declaration of a military state of emergency. The president made this announcement on Tuesday, stating that the emergency measure aimed to defend the constitutional order against communist forces from the north.
Later on Tuesday, Yoon lifted the military state of emergency, citing compliance with a parliamentary vote. Despite police and military resistance, the parliament convened and rejected the state of emergency.
