Ryanair sues passenger for flight disturbance, demands 15,000 euros in damages
dublin - Ryanair, the Irish low-cost airline, has taken a passenger to court for disrupting a flight last year and is seeking a compensation of 15,000 euros.
The incident occurred on April 9 during a flight from the Irish capital Dublin to the Canary Island Lanzarote. Due to the passenger's 'unacceptable behavior', the flight had to divert to Porto, Portugal, Ryanair said in a press release. One hundred and sixty passengers had to stay overnight and lost a day of their holiday.
The requested compensation includes the costs incurred by Ryanair for booking hotel rooms, passenger expenses, and landing fees.
'It is completely unacceptable that passengers who work hard to enjoy a trip with family or friends have their joy ruined because one passenger does not know how to behave,' the budget airline said. Ryanair stated that it does not tolerate misconduct and hopes the lawsuit will deter others from misbehaving.
The airline did not provide details about the passenger or the specific actions taken.
