sassnitz - An oil tanker that drifted off the northeast coast of Germany last week is being towed to the port of Skagen in northern Denmark. The tanker, carrying 99,000 tons of oil, was en route from Russia to Egypt.
The Eventin was traveling from the Russian port of Ust-Luga to Port Said in Egypt. Last Friday, the engine failed for unknown reasons in the Baltic Sea, causing the Panamanian-flagged vessel to drift aimlessly.
The ship is linked to the so-called shadow fleet, which violates international sanctions by transporting Russian oil.
The crew of the ship is reported to be in good condition despite the onboard systems being non-operational. Heating and all sanitary facilities have failed. Authorities assure that the ship poses no threat to the environment. It remains unclear what will happen to the ship in Skagen.
