The Defense Ministry mentioned that Ukraine initiated a counteroffensive to stop the advance of their forces in the Kursk region. They stated, "Russian forces launched attacks on armored vehicles on the border of the Kursk region and the stronghold of the Ukrainian Armed Forces using Su-34 fighter jets."
The Ministry stated, "The advance of the Ukrainian army that occupied the Kurs region yesterday morning has been halted." While relaying intelligence reports, the Defense Ministry claimed that Ukraine lost over 49,000 soldiers and 273 tanks in Kursk.
Furthermore, the Defense Ministry revealed that they destroyed 12 Ukrainian drones in overnight attacks.
The Defense Ministry announced that in addition to the Kursk region, they have taken control of Kurakhovo town in Donbass. According to the statement, the southern group units successfully reclaimed the most densely populated Kurakhovo town in the southwest of Donbass.
The town was highlighted as an important logistic hub for the Ukrainian army that would significantly hinder the logistic and technical support to the Ukrainian forces heading towards Donetsk.
The Ministry highlighted that with the liberation of Kurakhovo, Russian forces were able to enter the region, which will significantly increase the speed of reclaiming Donetsk territories.
Moreover, clashes intensified around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced that two explosions occurred near the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
Regarding the alarming explosions near Europe's largest nuclear plant, IAEA stated, "Our officials reported loud explosions that coincided with news of a drone attack on the training center of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant near the nuclear facility." They mentioned that two explosions were heard, but there is no information about any damages yet.
IAEA also reported that there were several instances of machine gun fires heard around the region where the nuclear plant is located. They emphasized the increase in military activities around the nuclear plant in the past 24 hours.
