In the Congolese capital of Kinshasa, demonstrators have targeted several foreign embassies, prompting the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (BuZa) to advise Dutch citizens to stay indoors due to the violent demonstrations. Foreigners are being specifically targeted, according to the ministry.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is prepared to offer assistance and is closely monitoring the situation.
The conflict between the Congolese army and rebels from the M23 movement in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has intensified since the beginning of this year. A red travel advisory is in place for that region, indicating the high level of danger. The rest of the DRC is under an orange travel advisory, advising essential travel only and not for leisure purposes.
