belgrade, serbia - A pregnant parliamentarian suffered a stroke during a violent incident in the Serbian parliament involving smoke and tear gas bombs.
Pregnant Parliamentarian's Health in Jeopardy
In a violent clash at the Serbian parliament, a heavily pregnant parliamentarian suffered a stroke when smoke and tear gas bombs were thrown by opposition members. Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic stated that parliamentarian Jasmina Obradovic was severely injured, and efforts are underway to save her and her baby's lives. Another parliamentarian was also injured in the skirmish.
The opposition members, including tear gas, turned against the speaker after the government coalition members set the agenda for the session, causing dissatisfaction among opposition members.
The coalition, led by President Aleksandar Vucic and the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), which has been in power for ten years, has been facing criticism from opposition, student unions, farmer organizations, and others. They accuse the government of incompetence and corruption. The series of protests against the government began following the collapse of the concrete roof of a newly renovated station in Novi Sad, resulting in the death of fifteen people. The next major protest against the president and government is scheduled for March 15.
