The Portuguese police intercepted a submarine carrying 6.5 tons of cocaine near the Azores, over 900 kilometers away in the Atlantic Ocean.

This seizure marks a significant achievement for Portugal, with a record-breaking 23 tons of cocaine confiscated in 2024.

Use of Submarines in Drug Trafficking

Drug smugglers frequently use submarines to evade law enforcement. Portuguese authorities collaborated with the navy, air force, DEA, British, and Spanish police for this operation.
