brussels - Extremist Polish MEP Grzegorz Braun disrupts Holocaust commemoration by shouting inappropriate remarks during a moment of silence.
Disruption at Holocaust Commemoration
The Holocaust commemoration in the European Parliament was abruptly disrupted by the extremist right-wing Polish MEP, Grzegorz Braun. While the Parliament observed a minute of silence to honor all Holocaust victims and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz in Poland, Braun shouted, 'Let us pray for the victims of the Jewish genocide in Gaza.' This disrespectful outburst caused immediate intervention from Parliament President Roberta Metsola, who instructed Braun to leave the room. Security then escorted him out of the political arena.
During the event, Dutch MEP Corrie Hermann, daughter of cellist and Holocaust victim Pál Herman, delivered a moving speech. Metsola later apologized to her for the disruption caused by Braun.
Many Dutch MEPs in attendance expressed shock and condemnation towards Braun's actions. SGP MEP Bert-Jan Ruissen stated, 'I have no words for this. This man deserves the highest possible sanction that the European Parliament can impose.'
Braun, known for his anti-Semitic views, has a history of provocative behavior. Last year in Poland, he disrupted a ceremony celebrating the Jewish Hanukkah festival in parliament by attacking a menorah with a fire extinguisher, followed by derogatory remarks about Judaism.
