Pentagon's Request to Overturn September 11 Defense Deals Denied
usa - A US court rejected Defense Secretary Lloyd James Austin's attempt to overturn defense deals of the 9/11 attackers.
A US court has deemed Defense Secretary Lloyd James Austin's attempt to invalidate defense deals of three suspects accused of planning the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks illegal.
The Military Commission Review Court (CMCR) evaluated the appeal to overturn defense deals with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Walid Muhammad Salih Mubarak Bin Attash, and Mustafa Ahmed Adam al-Hawsawi, who are accused of planning the 9/11 terror attacks.
The CMCR found Austin's attempts to invalidate defense deals of the three suspects accused of 'planning the September 11, 2001 terror attacks' illegal.
The court ruled that Austin's attempts to invalidate defense deals of the three suspects were unlawful, arguing that the decision to make defense deals falls within the authority of commission official Susan Escallier, and that Austin's attempts were beyond his jurisdiction.
The court stated that overturning agreements that would allow the suspects to escape the death penalty by accepting lighter charges retroactively was 'unjust' and 'beyond his authority.'
