Over 50 Iranians Killed in Coal Mine Explosion in Eastern Iran
tehran - 51 miners have died in a coal mine explosion in eastern Iran, with rescue efforts hindered by remaining methane gas in the mine.
Over 50 miners have lost their lives in a tragic coal mine explosion in eastern Iran, according to IRNA, the official Iranian news agency.
The head of the Iranian Red Crescent relief organization stated that 24 individuals are still missing as rescue operations continue to face challenges due to the presence of methane gas in the mine.
Eastern Iran is known for its mining activities, with three-quarters of Iran's coal production originating from the region. While accidents are not uncommon in Iranian mines, a disaster of this scale resulting from an explosion has not been seen in a long time. The last major incident was in 2017, claiming 42 lives.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, en route to the United Nations General Assembly in New York, has expressed his condolences to the affected families.
