seoul - South Korean opposition announced plans to impeach acting President Han Duck-soo due to his refusal to sign special bills to investigate his impeached predecessor, Yoon Suk-yeol.

The South Korean opposition stated on Tuesday that they would impeach acting President Han Duck-soo in protest against the interim leader's refusal to sign special bills to investigate his deposed predecessor, Yoon Suk-yeol.

The main opposition party, the Democratic Party, had set Christmas Eve as the deadline for Han to announce the two bills that would investigate the state of emergency declared by the suspended President Yoon. The investigation would also include allegations of corruption involving his wife, Kim Keon-hee.

Yoon was removed from office by parliament on December 14 after declaring a military state of emergency in the country eleven days earlier following a political conflict with the opposition. The opposition deemed it an undemocratic measure and filed a motion to vote him out.
