Official Portraits Revealed for Trump's Second Inauguration
Monday marks Donald Trump's second inauguration as American president. In light of the occasion, official portraits for both President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance have been released.
The portrait Trump selected this time differs significantly from the image used in 2017 when he first became president. The big smile that was prominent in 2017 is nowhere to be seen this time. 'Trump might be embracing a challenging image, transforming a moment of legal adversity into a symbol of resilience and strength,' said Quardricos Driskell, a political science professor at George Washington University, to the BBC.
'The stark contrast with his previous, more traditional portrait could also signify a shift in his public persona, emphasizing a tougher, more combative stance as he prepares to take office for the second time,' it continues.
The photo of Trump bears a striking resemblance to an image taken in 2023 at Fulton County Jail. Trump was indicted by a grand jury on August 14 for extortion and forgery, among other charges, related to his alleged attempt to influence the 2020 election results in Georgia. He was arrested and released on bail from the Georgia prison.
His 'mugshot' went viral. Several social media users are convinced that he wanted to emulate the photo now.
