North Korea Deploys New 'Weapon' at the Border with South Korea
north korea - Tensions escalate as North Korea uses loudspeakers to create psychological pressure on the residents at the border with South Korea.
North Korea has placed large loudspeakers along the border to intimidate the population of the neighboring country. The 354 residents are bombarded with loud, eerie noises 10 to 24 hours a day, including sounds of wolves howling, metal grinding, a monkey banging on a piano, and screams reminiscent of a horror movie. This tactic of using noise as a weapon is a new escalation in the already strained relationship between the two countries.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un recently urged his military to prepare for war, blaming South Korea and the United States for escalating tensions on the Korean peninsula to unprecedented levels. The Korean War ended in 1953 with a ceasefire, but no peace treaty was ever signed. In recent years, North Korea has been intensifying its provocations, conducting missile tests and labeling South Korea as an enemy, further exacerbating the conflict.
The lack of dialogue with South Korea's President Yoon Suk-yeol, increased missile tests, and North Korea's alignment with Russia in the Ukrainian conflict have all contributed to the mounting tensions in the region.
