Newborn Baby Disappears from Hospital in Vienna
vienna - A newborn baby has gone missing from a hospital in Vienna, triggering a massive search operation as authorities try to determine the child’s whereabouts.
A nurse noticed on Thursday that a newborn baby was missing from the room at the Klinik Favoriten. The nurse searched for the mother, who had briefly left the room, but she did not have her baby with her. This prompted a major alert.
The entire hospital was searched, and all cars trying to leave the premises were inspected. However, the child was nowhere to be found. Authorities have stated that there are no immediate indications of a kidnapping, but they are not ruling it out either. The parents of the child and their family members have been questioned, and the police have expanded the perimeter of the search operation.
According to Austrian media, a police sniffer dog reportedly barked at a trash can at one point, but it was empty.
The relevant authority clarified that the hospital ward where the mother was located is a secure unit. Not just anyone can enter. Visitors must ring a bell and wait for staff to open the door.
The search operation is ongoing.
