Netherlands-Germany Trade Declines, but 'We Need Each Other More Than Ever'

Trade between Netherlands and Germany saw a 4.65% decrease in 2024, amounting to €205 billion. Germany remains the largest trading partner in Europe for Netherlands and the third largest globally, according to Bundesamt für Statistik. Despite the decline, the trade volume remains stable at a high level.
In 2024, Germany sold over €110 billion worth of goods to Netherlands, a 1.6% decrease from the previous year. Conversely, Dutch exports to Germany decreased by 7.1% to €95 billion, attributed to lower energy prices in 2024. Only the United States and China surpass Germany in trade volume.
German-Dutch Chamber of Commerce anticipates further strengthening of trade ties in future technologies like chips, process industry, energy storage, and artificial intelligence, emphasizing the mutual benefits of collaboration amidst geopolitical shifts.
