kathmandu - Nima Rinji Sherpa, an 18-year-old Nepalese climber, has achieved the remarkable feat of summiting all fourteen peaks higher than 8,000 meters, breaking the previous record held by a 30-year-old compatriot.
Nima Rinji Sherpa, an 18-year-old Nepalese climber, has become the youngest person to summit all fourteen peaks higher than 8,000 meters, a highly prestigious accomplishment in the world of mountaineering. Sherpa broke the record set in 2019 by another Nepalese climber, Mingma Gyabu Sherpa, who was 30 years old at the time.
According to his team, Sherpa reached the summit of Shisha Pangma in Tibet this Wednesday. Hailing from a family of ethnic Sherpas with a history of setting records, they also operate Nepal's largest mountaineering expedition company.
"Reaching this summit is not just the pinnacle of my personal journey but a tribute to every Sherpa who has dared to dream beyond the traditional boundaries set for us. Climbing is more than a job; it is a testament to our strength, resilience, and passion," Sherpa wrote on Instagram.
The Sherpas, a demographic group of over 120,000 people in Nepal, have gained a reputation for being exceptionally skilled climbers due to their knowledge and way of life. Their name has almost become synonymous with mountain guides in the Himalayas. Additionally, Sherpas perform various demanding tasks such as carrying food and supplies uphill and maintaining climbing equipment.
