A Southwest Airlines passenger jet, arriving from Omaha, Nebraska to Chicago, narrowly avoided a collision with a Bombardier Challenger 350 private jet at Chicago Midway International Airport. The private jet, bound for Knoxville, Tennessee, entered the runway without permission, prompting air traffic control to issue multiple warnings.
According to reports, the air traffic control tower instructed the private jet pilot to wait without obstructing the runway, but the pilot disregarded the instruction. Southwest Airlines stated that their crew followed safety protocols, ensuring a safe landing for the passengers and crew.
This incident comes after a recent tragedy in Washington DC, where an American Airlines passenger jet collided mid-air with a Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter, resulting in both aircraft crashing into the Potomac River and 67 fatalities.
