Secretary General of NATO Mark Rutte traveled to Florida on Friday for a meeting with the incoming US President Donald Trump to discuss security issues, confirmed a spokesperson.
Earlier on Friday, insiders reported that Rutte had taken the Dutch government plane to Florida following reports from De Telegraaf. NATO often rents aircraft from member states of the military alliance for travel.
The two met in Palm Beach, where Trump's estate Mar-a-Lago is located. The Republican has been critical of NATO and during his first term even threatened to withdraw the United States from the alliance, considering it unfair that Americans pay much more for defense than other countries.
