- Napoli's Gioanni Manna reveals financial demands as the reason for Garnacho deal collapse with Man United in January.
Napoli Unable to Meet Garnacho's Financial Demands
Napoli sporting director Gioanni Manna disclosed that the club's pursuit of Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United hit a roadblock due to the player's high financial expectations. Garnacho, 20, was a target for Napoli to bolster their attacking options following Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's departure to PSG for €60 million. Manna stated, 'We made a significant offer to United, very close to their demands, but Garnacho's financial requests were out of reach for us in January.' Despite reaching an agreement on the transfer fee, Napoli couldn't meet Garnacho's salary demands, which Manna deemed unfair to the existing squad members with lower wages. Additionally, Manna disclosed that Borussia Dortmund's Karim Adeyemi declined a move to Napoli, opting to wait amid reported interest from Premier League clubs.'We had a preliminary agreement with Dortmund for Adeyemi, but the player wasn't ready to come at this time,' Manna explained.
