Mysterious Dinosaur Footprints Found in Dewars Farm Quarry
oxfordshire, united kingdom - A discovery of dinosaur footprints in Dewars Farm Quarry has caught the attention of scientists, shedding light on ancient species and their behaviors.
A sencoryfounder at the Dewars Farm Quarry, Gary Johnson, stumbled upon peculiar mounds on the limestone surface while excavating clay layers with his excavator.
Unbeknownst to Johnson, what he found were actually footprints left by dinosaurs that roamed the area almost 166 million years ago when the planet was much warmer and sea levels were higher.
These footprints belonged to a sauropod, walking on four legs, called cetiosaurus, and a small carnivorous theropod, named megalosaurus. The discovery of around 200 footprints has turned Dewars Farm Quarry into the largest dinosaur trackway in the UK.
Micro-paleontologist Prof. Dr. Kirsty Edgar from the University of Birmingham described the findings as a rare glimpse into the past, akin to a time machine, showcasing tropical snapshots of Oxfordshire 166 million years ago.
