sydney - Nine beaches near the Australian city of Sydney have been closed after the discovery of "mysterious balls", reported by The Sydney Morning Herald on Tuesday. The beaches are located just north of the metropolis, including the prominent Manly beach.
Most of the balls found are about the size of a marble. "Some balls are larger in size," the municipality reported, as they are working to clean up the objects. They are also investigating whether the balls have washed up on more beaches.
In October, thousands of black balls were discovered on almost all beaches east of Sydney, including the world-famous Bondi and Coogee beaches.
Initially thought to be tar balls, further investigation revealed that they were made up of a "disgusting" combination of human waste, cooking oil, chemicals, and drugs.
The origin of the previously found balls remains unclear, but they likely ended up on the beach through a sewage leakage.
