In the vicinity of Pekalongan in Java, at least sixteen people have lost their lives due to a landslide triggered by intense rainfall. The most severe landslide occurred in the northern part of Central Java, with sixteen fatalities, ten injuries, and five individuals still missing.
Police chief Doni Prakoso stated, 'The rainfall in Pekalongan was quite heavy, and the most affected area is hilly or mountainous.'
Landslides in Bali
On the tourist island of Bali, two deadly landslides occurred. Sunday night, four individuals perished in Pikat village when boulders hit a house, leaving four injured and one missing. Monday morning, another four people died in Ubung Kaja village as a house was buried under debris, with ongoing search for a missing person.
During the rainy season from November to April, landslides are common on Indonesian islands, exacerbated by deforestation in some regions.
