Mother of kidnapped baby Santiago to be extradited to France next week
paris - The mother of Santiago, a premature baby who was kidnapped by his parents on October 21st from a maternity clinic in Seine-Saint-Denis, will be extradited to France next week.
The mother of Santiago, whose parents are currently in custody in the Netherlands, will be extradited to France next week. The father has chosen a longer extradition process, while the mother's accelerated extradition procedure has been accepted.
The exact date of her extradition is not yet known, according to a court spokeswoman. The International Legal Cooperation Chamber (IRK) will decide on the father's extradition request at a public hearing.
Santiago was kidnapped from a hospital in Aulnay-sous-Bois near Paris on October 21st. Born eight weeks premature, the newborn was in need of constant care in an incubator. After a four-day race involving authorities from France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, the fugitive parents and their child were apprehended in an Amsterdam hotel room.
The baby is reported to be in good health and undergoing examinations in a neonatal department in the Netherlands. The grandmother of Santiago and two other children were also found in the hotel room, including a 10-year-old boy who is presumed to be Santiago's brother and a 3-year-old girl, likely his sister.
