Mother of baby Santiago released in France with conditions
bobigny - The mother who abducted her prematurely born baby Santiago from a French hospital with her partner has been released on conditions by a judge on Friday.
The woman was extradited to France from the Netherlands on Thursday, where she had to appear before an investigating judge. She is being prosecuted for kidnapping and imprisoning a minor under the age of 15.
The woman's lawyer stated that her condition and willingness to cooperate were taken into account. 'She belongs in the hospital rather than in prison,' the lawyer said.
Santiago was born prematurely early last month. On Monday, October 21, his parents took him from a hospital near Paris while he still required special care. Later that week, the couple with the baby was found in a hotel in Amsterdam.
The child was in good health and was transported back to France by ambulance last week. The timing of the father's extradition to France is still unknown.
