Firefly Aerospace Captures Solar Eclipse
Firefly Aerospace shared images of a solar eclipse captured by its lander Blue Ghost on the moon. The photos revealed a unique 'diamond ring' effect.
Historical Context
- In April 1967, the American lander Surveyor 3 also captured eclipse images, but with lower quality compared to Blue Ghost's photos.
Solar Eclipse Phenomenon
During a lunar eclipse, the earth blocks sunlight from reaching the moon, casting it into shadow. In the recent eclipse, only the initial stages were visible in the Netherlands.
In September, a total lunar eclipse will occur, with the highlight visible in the Netherlands if weather conditions permit. A total lunar eclipse visible from start to finish is expected in the Netherlands in December 2029.
